Welcome back the world of the living, o blog of mine. Let's hope this resurrection lasts longer than the last one did.
The past month has been a hectic swirl of new faces and places, and just now I'm finally starting to get a firm foothold in yet another small town. First Tronoh/Ipoh, now Miri. Lolz. I guess it's an interesting experience, though.
Basic amenities are finally in place: I have a house that I'm renting with two other girls. The house is a four bedroom semi-d (though the fourth bedroom is little more than a storeroom), located in the company's housing area. The houses are all painted a dismal green colour, I suppose to match the company colour. It gives the houses a somewhat gloomy look from the outside, but then again it makes the houses really easy to find. Lolz.
I've got my broadband, but the connection is really slow in that area, so I rarely get online nowadays. Saaaad. I tend to bring my laptop to the office nowadays, and then surf a little before office hours or during lunch, if I happen not to have so much work to do that day.
And I just got my car a couple of days ago, a little white Viva that I've named Alba. She's a cute little thing, slightly bigger than Georgina (my Kelisa, now Nina's). I was hoping to buy a Myvi actually, but I needed a car fast, and cheap. And so Alba it was. I got her within less than a week after I ordered her. Kind of funny though, that I bought her with about the same consideration as one would in buying a handbag. Not that I've ever bought a handbag before. Tralalala.
Most importantly, I now have my own means of transportation. Mobility is extremely important, as there aren't any stores within convenient walking distance from home or office. And it's not fun having to rely on other people for transport when I'm so used to getting things done myself. And now I can also work later or come to the office on weekends if I need to, apparently a common practice in my department. Sad.
Owh, speaking of which. Office hours in Miri are rather odd. 7.30am-4.30pm daily. School starts as early as 6am. Caused me some puzzlement when I first arrived, but then I guess it makes sense because we're actually in a different time zone here, about an hour's difference from Peninsular Malaysia. The time is standardized so that it's the same all over Malaysia regardless of actual time zone though. >__>
Currently, I am back home in Subang for the weekend until Tuesday, because I have to attend a training program at KLCC for a couple of days. Am going out for a movie with my boyfriend and my siblings in a while, and I'm looking forward to going to the cinema for the first time in weeks.
Shopping in Miri is practically nil, and the little that there is, isn't worth buying anyway because it tends to be more expensive. Which makes shopping at home all the more tempting, considering that I rarely get the chance to get back. *sobs* I could use a pretty pair of shoes, because my heels are looking rather old and worn out. I could use a new bottle of perfume, since I've none left. I could use a couple of t-shirts, cause I don't seem to have enough. I could use a thumbdrive, since I don't have one. But I have to hold off buying these things for the time being. Not enough money to spare, especially not after the downpayment for the car. *sigh*
Self-control, Shira. You have to spend money responsibly. And since when were you the shopping type anyway? Hmmph.
Ohh crap. I'm supposed to be getting ready to go out. Until next time~~

welcome to miri.
people always complain things are expensive. and in miri, things are expensive all the time. and we live thru it.
i hope you do too.
all the best for your journey here. the best teacher is experience.
Miri huh? I was trapped in Kuala Belait, Brunei for months on end earlier this year. Miri was my only escape then.
I'm back to Labuan for now though.
Trust me, you're way better off in Miri than here. Have fun! :)
