Eco-friendly Underwear? Huh??

... no, seriously.

Picture this - your phone runs out of batteries, presumably while you're out shopping for groceries, or out on your morning jog. And there's nowhere for you to charge your handphone! These days, your phone is your life!! what if you miss an important call or text message??

Fear not, Triumph's photovoltaic bra is here! Never again will you have to worry about phone or mp3 player batteries dying on you in crucial moments! Simply strip down to your skivvies and charge those babies right up with your solar-powered bra! Just make sure there are no males in the vicinity, or other things will be charged up too!

Just in case you didn't believe me. wtf.

Note that it's not advisable to get these things wet, so you may probably never wash them. Yes, nothing says eco-friendly like a pair of soiled undies that haven't been washed for a week plus. EW.

Being eco-friendly has its limits, you know. Does the word "practicality" mean anything anymore?

Owh, and thanks Dad, for a good laugh early in the morning. hahahaha XD

Please...

... don't hate me if you read it.

Isn't It Ironic

1) iTunes problem fixed. Got rid of stupid iTunes, synced iPod with latest version of Winamp instead. Works like a charm, so now I have a functional iPod again. The catch? I don't have a pair of functioning earphones. =___=

2) Hafez says he's getting a couple of days off during Raya, and will most likely be attending his company's annual dinner at Sunway. My house is freakin' near Sunway, hence a good opportunity to meet. All the more precious would that opportunity be, considering the next time he gets off the ship will be in February. too good to be true? Yes, it is. I won't be anywhere near Subang or Sunway or even in the same time zone during Raya break. T___T

It's too bad that UTP blocked FMyLife.com, these would make pretty decent FMLs. haha.

Bak kata Rusydi, it sucks to be me.

I Wonder...

... why are Malaysian celebrities referred to as "artists", when few, if any of them, ever produce anything remotely close to art?

Hafez, the Junior Version

We were at the old USM building, where Don wanted to stop by to withdraw some cash from the ATM.

Suddenly he pointed out a couple of guys to our left.

"Hey," he said. "That guy looks a lot like Hafez, but the junior version."

"Huh?" I said, turning to look. "No way!"

I caught a brief glimpse of him before he put on his helmet and climbed onto the motorbike with his friend.

"He does!" Illy exclaimed.

"No la. Where got." I rolled my eyes at them.

"Seriously!" Don argued. "He looks just like Hafez, junior version. Except that he's fairer and more handsome."

I laughed. "What the hell, Don."

"Ask Illy, I'm sure she agress," he said adamantly.

Much to my surprise, Illy did.

"Fine, whatever," I said, still laughing. We pulled out of the parking lot and headed off to Pocket C, Don insisting all the while that the guy really did look a lot like Hafez and that I had such an annoying "mine is better" attitude. =__=

* * * * * * *

It was later that same evening that we were at the bazaar Ramadhan, buying food for buka puasa (although I was the only one actually fasting lolz) that we saw the guy again.

This time, I caught a better look at him. (Although I think he was a bit weirded out that these same strangers kept staring at him, lolz)

"Ok, so I admit that he does kind of look like Hafez... especially from the back. Only he's much shorter," I told Don, admitting defeat. He really did. Not to say that he looked exactly like Hafez, but something about him really did remind me of him.

"I told you, right? And he's more handsome, right??"

What kind of person asks you whether someone is more handsome than their boyfriend? =__=

"We-ell... he's kind of cute, I suppose. But I still think Hafez is more handsome."

At which Don made an exasperated face.

"No, really. If Hafez came back completely black from being sunburned on that ship, and with a beard like a Taliban guy from not shaving for 6 months, I'd still love him." I insisted.

"She says that now..." Don said, exchanging looks with Illy.

=___=

Hmmmph. I sayang Hafez because of who he is, not because of what he looks like.

Still kind of weird though, how much that guy looked like him. I'd think he was a cousin of Hafez's, except that I've seen photos of his cousins, and none of them even remotely resemble each other.

But seeing that doppelganger makes me miss the real thing even more. =( I want to call him, but he didn't reply my message... must me down in his bunk. huhu...

First Day of Fasting

We buka puasa at Moven's Peak yesterday; me, Reen, Illy, Lynn, Don, Rezza and Rusydi.

Of which, I was the only girl fasting =___= So really, it was only three of us breaking fast, but oh well.

After that we went to catch a 9:30 movie at JJ, Up. Awesome movie. It was soo cute and funny, none of us could stop laughing throughout, or going "Awwwww!" every now and then. Go watch it if you haven't already!

After the movie ended, we drove back to Batu Gajah, and went for karaoke. Sang our lungs out for 2 hours and 36 songs (crazy). But omg it was so fun XD I guess karaoke is only fun when none of you are good singers who like to syok sendiri, and when everyone knows all the songs and sings along no matter who is holding the mic. Best karaoke session I've been to, ever. XD

And when we finally crawled out of the karaoke place, we decided to go for sahur somewhere, and so headed back to Tronoh to hunt for a mamak.

Strangely, for the first time in our 4 years at UTP, not a single mamak was open! We were shocked and amazed. What was going on?? Hari Cuti Mamak Sedunia??

Rezz and Lynn asked to be excused, apparently tired from the day's activities, so we dropped them off at UTP, piled everyone into my car, and headed off again to hunt for food.

Yes, we were so semangat despite the fact that only two people in the car were actually fasting (me and Rusydi), haha. =P

We decided then and there to go for McD breakfast, (yums!) since some of us had been craving it for some time now, haha.

Unfortunately, when we arrived there, the sour-faced kakak at the counter informed us that McD breakfast starts at 6am (whaaat? since when??), so we had to settle for other food instead =(

Not exactly the sahur we were hoping for, but we whacked anyway. haha. Seriously though, McD breakfast at 6am?? Looks like we won't be able to eat their hash browns for a month, then. Yeesh. Terrible marketing strategy, wtf. Dah la the fries I ordered tasted re-heated, urgh.

Overall though, had sooo much fun XD Crawled into bed at 7 in the morning, completely knackered out but happy. haha

* * * * * * *

Meanwhile, an update from Inaitulip. =)

He's being well-fed on the ship, no shortage of food for buka puasa, sahur, and even snacks in between. So no worries in that department =)

His bunk has no phone line, so he has to go up on deck to call me. A bit harder to call or message him now, as I don't know when he's in his bunk and when he's not. >__> Otherwise though, I guess it's not so bad as long as I can still contact him.

Today's the 6th day since he left.

Hafez's Graduation

Hafez graduated last Sunday.

Yes, I am slow to update. I'm lazy. That and the internet connection in UTP is horrible. The LAN is apparently down, because I can't seem to connect to it at all. And I get disconnected from the wireless connection every 5 minutes or so, it's a real pain in the ass.

Plus I was studying my butt off for my Cyber Law quiz. Why study so hard for just a quiz, you ask? Because the failure rate for the course is very high. Like, in the whole history of that course being taught at UTP, only like a small handful of people ever got A for it. Most people count themselves lucky to escape with a C or a D. And these people who get Cs and Ds are Deans Listers, ok. I cannot afford to get a low grade point average this semester!

Hence, the manic studying. For a quiz. Ahem. But it's done with now, and it wasn't so bad after all... coincidentally, the stuff that came out I'd remembered. But then again, he told us he was going really easy on us. >__>

But I digress.

Last Friday, I stayed up making a card for Hafez, because I'm a cheapskate who doesn't like to waste money buying cards, haha. Also because I happen to think that handmade ones are more personalized and therefore more thoughtful.

The card was actually pretty simple. It's just that I'm completely crap at card-making, so it takes me longer than most sane people. >__>

The front of the card.

The hat was the hardest for me to make. I had to stick like four or five pieces of paper together to get it just thick enough and then painstakingly cut out the botton and top part of the hat. Urgh. And don't get me started on the tassle. >__>

The back of the card.

That animal was meant to be a treesloth, but it ended up looking like a shih-tzu. =__= owh, and I drew a treesloth because that's what I call Hafez. Because he sleeps a lot. Like a treesloth =P And I'm a koala because I'm clingy. Like duh. haha

For his graduation present, I bought him a teddy bear. I would have bought him flowers, but I thought it a bit weird buying flowers for a guy. Is it just me..? But then again, I asked him and he didn't want flowers either. So there =P

Not that a teddy bear is that much more macho, but at least it lasts longer? ladeedum~

On the day of the graduation, he got there nice and early with a big smile on his face.

(This was actually taken later in the day, I'm kind of cheating. What, you think I semangat want to wake up so early and stalk him and take photos ah? Heck no. =P)

He's so semangat, his shirt and tie matches the robes. =P

I got up around 8.30am, and by the time I reached there it was 9-something and the ceremony was just starting.

Since each graduate could only invite two people into the hall, and since those invitation slots were obviously taken up by his parents, I had to sit outside. Wasn't so bad, there was a big screen outside, so we could see what was going on on the stage.

About an hour later and over 50 "Mohamads" later (=__=), they finally called his name.

He was smiling the whole time he was walking on the stage towards Dr. M. I had an equally big grin plastered on my face. Was so proud of him, he looked so handsome *sniff, sniff* lolz

See how handsome my boyfriend is. See, see.

The official photgrapher or whatever they call 'em, chose kind of a weird angle. Never mind, my boyfriend is still handsome lolz.

And then he was off the stage, and I waited at the door thinking he'd come out soon.

But, no. He couldn't leave until the whole ceremony was over.

And so I had to wait outside in the lovely heat and humidity of UTP until he came out, nearly three hours later. >__> His parents were nice enough to come outside and teman me, though. ^^

Eventually he came out. And then we went to the tents they'd set up at the staff's parking lot, where there was food laid out for guests. I wasn't sure whether I was allowed to come as well, but his mum dragged me along anyway, lolz. The food was... well, it doesn't matter whether the food was good or not, because it was free. Right? Right. *nods vigourously*

After we ate, we took a picture. Teehee.

I'm holding the teddy bear I gave him. Cute right? XD I forced Hafez to name him, and he did. It was a one-syllable name like... Bob or Greg or something, but I forgot it. Poor bearbear T___T

We met up with Pupu then, and I asked him to take a few shots of Hafez. These are the ones he edited, they're nice =)

He also took a picture of Hafez with his mum, but that one is still with Pupu I guess.

Then we went back to Hafez's house for a bit so he could change out of his shirt and tie before we went out again to Ipoh.

But not before he took a picture with his dad... (x sempat take picture with his dad at UTP because his dad hilang somewhere to re-park the car or something when Pupu came along with his camera, owh well.)

... and his brother. (His brother came back to Ipoh for the weekend from Shah Alam, but couldn't go to the convo after all because he fell sick. Kesian.)

Owh, brother pics not available, because we took them using his brother's phone. Too bad. You'll have to take my word for it, Hafez looks like his mum, and his older brother looks like his dad.

And then we were sitting around in their living room for a while, and Hafez was playing with his scroll, pointing it at me and mumbling "Wingardium Leviosa" despite me rolling my eyes at him repeatedly.

I snapped this pic in the middle of him playing with his scroll.

haha. Ignore the feet in the background. I forgot who they belong to. =P

Well... that's it for the convo pics. Unfortunately, they're mostly sad quality pictures taken with my pathetic 2.0 megapixel handphone camera. Sad, sad. Owh well.

* * * * * * *

In other news, I saw Hafez off at the Medan Gopeng bus station on Monday night. He was taking a bus to Johor, where he started work on Tuesday. And for the record, I cried, but I did not wail like a banshee. I did not. =__=

He sent me this photo on Tuesday.

That's the ship he's working on now. It's traveling between Johor and Singapore, digging up the seabed for whatever reason, port maintenance I suppose. >__>

I'll see him 6 months from now, when he gets off that ship. T___T

He reloaded RM30 worth of prepaid before he boarded, but he's used it all up between calling me and his mum. Oops. It's only been 4 days. >__>

I'll call him tomorrow, then. But there's so much to talk about and I miss him so much, how to keep our talk time to a minimum... T__T

Until 6 months from now, I guess every night I will have to resort to hugging his smelly sweater and listening to the song he wrote for me.

Yes, another one of these thingeys for good measure. ---> T____T

Reading

With so few classes this sem, you would expect me to be spending all my free time actually doing work. Too bad.

>__>

This morning, I woke up and thought I'd continue my book. And then it occurred to me... which one do I pick up and read?? lolz

Greedy, greedy Shira. Starting more than one book at a time.

Exhibit A: Skin

A collection of Roald Dahl's short stories, including the one we read in school: The Sound Machine. I was surprised when I read that story. Did you know, they shortened it for our English Literature syllabus? How do you make a short story shorter?? *is in complete disbelief* And WHY?? Btw the title story, Skin, is freakay. At the end of the story I was like this --> o__O That Roald Dahl guy had some imagination.

Exhibit B: Dombey and Son

Haven't read this one before, or even heard of the title. But I've been craving to read a Charles Dickens novel ever since I saw the Mystery of Edwin Drood at Times bookstore the other day. If I can't get that exact book, any other by the same author is the next best thing.

Exhibit C: Hawaiian Caress

Ok, I don't usually read romance novels. In fact, the last time I picked up a romance novel of this kind was when I was in Form 3, and even that I just picked up and read because it was lying around. (Is how I learned about the birds and the bees, lolz) But I was in the mood for some good ol' smut. Sanggup wei, drve all the way to Ipoh just to find a Novel Hut and buy smut, haha! But is nice to read once in a while. Plus the hero in this story is the captain of a ship. 'nuff said =P

Exhibit D: The Malay Dilemma

Ok, this one I can say I'm reading for my Malaysian Studies class. Pick any book about Malaysia, the lecturer said, and write a book report about it. This book it is, then. I've always meant to read it, just never found an occasion to. (byk je alasan)

And these four are the ones stealing away my time from FYP. Before this it was The Glass Palace (Amitav Ghosh) and All's Well That Ends Well (Shakespeare). Ish. Reading marathon.

I'd make somebody take my library card and hold it for me to make sure I don't borrow out any more fiction, but then again... my library card is my matric card. x boleh la mcm tu. wahahaha

Die.

btw, I want book vouchers for my birthday. =D (ceh, as if my birthday is just around the corner =___=)

And Hafez, make sure the library in our house next time is BIG. If the library is as big as the one in Beauty and the Beast so much the better. (Need I say more, that's why the Beast is my favourite prince in all of Disney. =P)

The Little Prince

Today, I read the book The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. I was initially attracted to it by the simple but charming illustrations, and then got drawn into it further and further as I read it.

Although it's really a book for children, the messages it gives are heartfelt and profound.

In one particular chapter, a fox comes across the Prince, and asks him to tame him. And he says this:

“You have hair like the color of gold. Think how wonderful that will be when you have tamed me! The grain, which is also golden, will bring me back the thought of you. And I shall love to listen to the wind in the wheat…”

Basically, that the wheat is just another object to the fox, but once he loves the Prince, he will love the wheat because it will remind him of the Prince. The things around us are mere things; what gives them meaning and sentiment to us is that they represent something or someone that we love. Isn't that so?

So whenever I hear those songs that he used to make me listen to repeatedly in the car, whenever I walk by those places we used to hang out at... there are just about hundreds of little things that remind me of him.... and every one of those things I will love, because they will remind me of him. No matter how far away he leaves, or how long he leaves, at least I'll have those things to remind me of him until the next time he comes back. I guess now I feel a little bit better about letting him go, because at least I know I have something to hold on to, however intangible.

But as the book also says:

“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

ok, now I'm getting sappy, so I'll just stop right there. But seriously, I think anyone'd feel sappy after reading that book. Y'know... unless you have a heart of stone or something.

Other quotes that I liked from the book:

Grown-ups love figures. When you tell them that you have made a new friend, they never ask you any questions about essentail matters. They never say to you, “What does his voice sound like? What games does he love best? Does he collect butterflies?” Instead, they demand: “How old is he? How many brothers has he? How much does he weigh? How much money does his father make?” Only from these figures do they think they have learned anything about him.

“To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world…”

"All men have the stars," he answered, "but they are not the same things for different people. For some, who are travellers, the stars are guides. For others they are no more than little lights in the sky. For others, who are scholars, they are problems. For my businessman they were wealth. But all the stars are silent. You--you alone--will have the stars as no one else has them--"

The book was published in 1943. I wonder what took me so long to find it.

Making Babies

When I'm bored, I make babies.

No, really. I'm serious.

I made a baby girl with Hafez today. See?

We also made a baby boy.

Then I decided to be more experimental, so I made a baby with Ewan McGregor wtf. Hey, a girl can dream.

... See, people. When normal humans try to make babies with celebrities, disasters happen. o__O dunno how an asian + caucasian can suddenly become a mixed african-american and caucasian baby complete with an afro, wtf.

makemebabies.com ni merepek la. If real babies looked like that, I'd be very afraid.

I still haven't figured out whether my babies look more like me or their fathers, lolz.

What do you think?

All's Fair in Love and War

Mum was reading this article in the newspaper yesterday and told me about it.

Apparently, this guy had been cheating on his wife with at least five other women. So when his wife found out about it, what did she do?

She contacted three of those women, and they plotted to get their revenge on him. One of them lured him to a motel with the promise of a "massage", where he was willingly tied to the bed and blindfolded.

And then entered the other women to assist her in "torturing" him. Basically, they bitch-slapped him, threatened him with a non-existent gun, and then finished off by pulling off his underwear and squirting a bottle of superglue all over his penis.

BRILLIANT. He totally had it coming, I'd say. I mean, c'mon. It's not like it did any permanent physical damage. Psychological and emotional trauma maybe, but then again he caused a lot of psychological and emotional trauma to the women he played, so I'd say all is fair. *snickers*

Hilarious. Sounds like an interesting plot for a comedy, maybe. I'd watch it =P

The Boy in the Unicorn Pyjamas

That morning, I'd gone out with Illy to Reen's house to get my Flash textbook. After having lunch in Shah Alam, we'd then gone to Pyramid and bought lunch (Subway) for my siblings.

Upon returning home, the automatic gate opened for me, and I waved goodbye to Illy.

Then as I walked up the driveway, the front door opened a tiny crack. I held out the plastic bag with the food in it.

"Oi!" I called. "Come and get the food la. I wanna go wash my feet first."

"I'm not coming out!!" Aris' voice called back from behind the door.

"Why? ... omg, you're still in your pyjamas, aren't you?"

"Yes!"

=___=

"Just come on out, Aris. Nobody's gonna care about your pyjamas."

"But it's embarassing!" he yelped.

"What's so embarassing about your..?"

Before I could finish, the door opened another few inches, and I caught a glimpse of the pyjamas he was wearing.

It was a pair of baby blue pyjamas with a unicorn/pony on the front. I snickered.

See, that's the sad thing about being the youngest and having two older sisters. You get their hand-me-down pyjamas. LOL.

Poor Aris.

Plants vs Zombies

I finished adventure mode! One mini-game left to do, two puzzles left, survival mode, and then to complete my Zen garden! +___+

Owh, and I love this song. It's stuck in my head =D

And let's not forget the Japanese version!

hehe... I love that they used my facourite flower as the most important plant in the garden <3 I think 'sunflower' in Japanese is 'himawari'. Am I right?

A Week At Home

UTP was getting pretty scary. Everywhere you looked, there were people walking around wearing masks. After a while, I got to thinking that I'd better wear one too. Better safe than sorry, right?

So I walked to the clinic, intending to get one there. But when I arrived, there were dozens of people there. All coughing and sneezing. Then I figured, I was more likely to catch something by standing around at the clinic than by not wearing a mask. And I wasted no time in skedaddling on out of there.

Not before I'd walked past a group of 10-15 obviously sick people, sitting around wearing masks. There was a man, apparently a medical officer of some sort, giving them instructions. They were to be taken in vans to the block where they would be quarantined for a week. They were to go back to their rooms and pack quickly. They were to speak to no one. And so it went on.

I stared at those pitiful people, sitting dejectedly on the bench, realizing with dismay that Illy had probably gone through something similar. It was rather depressing to see people being locked away simply for having the flu.

After class, I happened to walk past the clinic again. This was not two hours since, but again there was a fresh batch of sick people being given the same instructions. How many people were there that was sick?

Even up until now, I don't know how many people were sick. Some rumours said 60, some said 120. I don't know how many people actually had H1N1 either. Again, the rumours I heard varied so much, it's hard to be certain.

On Friday afternoon, I was packing to go home for the weekend. I was feeling rather homesick, and was eager to get away from UTP and the depressing illness that was spreading like wildfire among the students.

My roommate was surprised when she saw what I packed to go home. One average-sized denim bag, packed with my laptop, laptop and phone chargers, lens solution... and that's it.

"That's all?" she asked, surprised. Considering that I had brought so many things to UTP as to induce comments about bringing my whole house with me, I guess it did seem a bit odd.

But I figured that since I'd be home only for the weekend, I didn't really need much else.

It was around 3pm when Don had dropped me off at KL Central that I received a text message from Reen informing me that UTP had closed for the week, much to my delight.

Surprisingly, I'm getting along quite well despite not bringing back a lot of things with me.

Things I regret not bringing with me:
- My laptop fan. My lappy is contantly overheating and crashing on me.
- Hair moisturiser. My hair is dyinggggg...
- My dirty laundry. Just the thought of my dirty laundry sitting and fermenting in my basket for over a week is making me grimace.

* * * *

In other news, I succeeded in making something edible for dinner last night. Fried chicken is a small thing to brag about, but I'm still happy anyway. =D

* * * *

Today is Hafez's first day of work. He's going to be in KL for some time to work and undergo training. Hopefully I'll be able to see him this week before I go back to UTP.

He says he's going to set sail after Raya. And then it will begin. He'll sail for 3 months, be home for 1 month, then sail again for another 3 months, and on and on and on... And while he's out at sea, no phone and no Internet. =(

Nina says it's kind of romantic. Like Pirates of the Carribean or something. Well. I guess that's another way of looking at it. >__>

On the other hand, it's going to be so lonely without him... huhu.

Humpin' Humpin' Humpin'

Y'know how kids like to imitate things they see in movies and tv? I remember me and my siblings used to do that when we were wee high.

Yesterday, I was at KLCC, and I was treated to the sight of a small kid about 4 or 5 years old humping his mother's leg. While I stared in horror, she continued talking to her husband, completely oblivious.

Sound familiar? O__o

Please don't bring kids to watch Transformers 2. Please. Some movies kids just don't have to see, even if they do have giant robots in them. Those are big boys' toys.

But then again, too late. Movie came out a looong time ago.

I wonder how many kids have been humping their mothers' or older sisters' legs lately. Yikes.
