Joke of the Day

Shira: Last night, I dreamed I was drowning in the ocean!

Hasif: Omg! Wet dream!

Nina: Huh, that's weird. I dreamed I was drowning in a sea of petrol.

Hasif: That's because you had to wake up oily in the morning.

================================================

Nina: Do you know, Power Rangers is very racist? The black ranger is a black dude, and the yellow ranger is an asian chick!

Hasif: And the white ranger is a white man!

Aris: And the pink ranger is a bimbo!

Shira: ... Does this mean that the blue ranger is a pervert?

Another typical lunchtime conversation at home. lolz

Homeschooling

My brother's school was closed down starting today. Thus far, there have been two students in his school that have been inflicted with the H1N1 virus (damn, that's a mouthful to say). While there's nothing to indicate that these cases are connected to the school, the school has been closed down anyway as a precaution.

So even snotty rich kids in private schools get the H1N1. Actually, if you ask me, they're probably more likely to get it, since they travel more. My brother told me one of his classmates was planning to go to Australia for their upcoming holiday in July. They would probably have to cancel now. Tsk.

In the meantime, my brother is being homeschooled. His school being a schmancy private school, they have an online e-learning portal. He and his schoolmates are therefore expected to log on at 8am sharp, stay online and enter their class chatrooms, and stay there doing work until "school" ends at 4. (What kind of fantasy world does his school admin live in?)

Surprisingly, my brother was all enthusiasm over learning online. His enthusiasm was duly crushed however, by the fact that he could not log in to the system despite numerous attempts. On the chance occasion that he did make it all the way to the chatroom, he reported that he was the only one there. When I woke up this morning, he was scowling and complaining about the "Internet connection", whilst clicking away at an online game. (ok, I may be exaggerating about the complaining)

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but if the problem was the Internet connection, he wouldn't be able to access the online game, correct? To clarify, I watched my brother attempt to log in a couple of times and failing miserably. My suspicions confirmed, I concluded that the school's server had crashed due to the large number of students accessing the system at the same time.

So much for online learning. *snickers*

In the meantime, what of my brother's education?

Enter Shira the tuition teacher..? Dun dun dun...

When Sampat People Go To The Hypermarket

The phone rang.

I paused, turning off the tap in the bathroom. "Aris? Whozzat?" I yelled, my mouth still full of toothpaste.

"Nina called! Mum says to put out three black bags behind!" Aris yelled back.

Mum, Dad, Nina and Hasif had gone out for tennis earlier that morning. Aris had excused himself... chest pains, he said. My excuse was that I'm just plain lazy.

Now, before I go any further, I should probably explain what my mum meant by putting out the black bags.

Every weekend, my parents will go out grocery shopping. And when we bring back our groceries, we don't straightaway store them. We line the kitchen floor with big black plastic bags, unlock the back door, and my dad and siblings will carry the bags of groceries from the car to the back. I will then retrieve the bags from them and arrange them carefully on the black plastic bags so that they do not touch the floor.

Once the items have all been carried in, my mum will begin the process of emptying out the bags. All bottles, cartons and packets will be rinsed under the tap. Items in cardboard boxes will be emptied out and placed into tupperwares, as will meats and vegetables.

Hence, it is not out of the ordinary to hear phrases in our home like "Go wash the water!" (as in, rinse the mineral water bottles), or "Wash the soap!" (rinse the soap/detergent bottles). The method to this madness is simply to sanitize all foreign objects entering into our home, because we never know who touched those things before or what those people may have touched before that.

Yes, I come from an obsessive-compulsive household.

Now that you are familiar with (or at least have a vague understanding of) our grocery-sorting routine, I will continue with the story.

Sure enough, once I'd lined the kitchen floor with three big plastic bags, my parents came home. I unlocked the back door, and waited for the groceries.

As I took the groceries from Dad, Nina and Hasif, I started to realise that something was very different.

"Wait... Giant bags? You guys went to Giant? Rather out of character, isn't it?" I commented. Typically, we do our grocery shopping at Cold Storage.

Dad grinned. "We finished tennis around 10.30, but the nasi padang place only opened around 11. Your mum wanted to kill time, so we went to get a few vegetables. Giant was nearby."

I raised my eyebrows further as I eyed the good dozen large plastic bags that were sitting on the plastic-lined floor. "That's a lot of vegetables. Strange... some of these vegetables look oddly like... tupperwares?"

"They're half the price of the tupperwares I normally buy! And look, some cheap shorts to wear at home!" Mum chirped in happily.

I laughed as we continued to unpack six large tubes of toothpaste, a good 3-4 month's worth of sanitary pads, assorted junk food, fish, vegetables (haha), a large bunch of assorted paintbrushes (for Nina's artwork, I suppose), glue, and a lot of other things.

As I took the last of the groceries from Dad and shut the back door, Hasif and Nina came running into the room.

"Shira! Shira! It was so weird! They sold television sets in the supermarket!"

"And they even sold furniture there!"

I laughed as the two of them described their first time in a hypermarket.

"Omg... you people are so sampat. You guys have never been in a hypermarket before meh? Carrefour? Tesco?" I asked in disbelief.

The two of them shrugged. "Nope!"

=__=

I wonder how it is I'm the only one among my siblings who's been to a hypermarket before. Tsk. Kids these days.

And I still don't know what the point of this post is, really.

1) Me being amazed that my family actually went to Giant?

2) My amusement at how my Mum can go into a store for a few vegetables and come out with a LOT of groceries and very miscellaneous goods?

3) My wtf-ness at my siblings having never gone to a hypermarket before?

All of the above, probably.

Pole Dancing

Check out this video!

I was amazed when I saw this. My previous impression of pole dancing was strippers twisting themselves around poles. I had no idea that it could look so graceful. o__O

Some interesting facts to note about the girl in this video:
1) She learned pole dancing entirely from online videos
2) She has no background whatsoever in gymastics or ballet (those splits are craaaaazy tho'!!)
3) She's only been doing this for little over a year

Despite the negative connotations of pole dancing, it is apparently a legitimate form of exercise, requiring significant upper body strength and flexibility. And stripping apparently helps women keep their body in very good shape.

Looks interesting, but I don't think I'd be trying it any time soon. It would be a bit troublesome trying to explain to my parents why I want a pole in my bedroom =P

When Sampat People Take The Train

The other day, Don insisted I learn to take a train, so we took one from Subang to KL Central, and from Central to Bukit Bintang, and then we walked to Pavilion. Fun!! My first time actually entering Central (don't laugh =__=)

Most of the train ride going there, I was sampat-ing over practically everything, but had to hold it in so I didn't embarass myself. So I made to act like a person who took the train everyday, and even brought along a novel inside my bag, which I happily pulled out and read on the ride. (people do that right? right? *__*) I wanted to plug in an mp3 player as well to complete the effect, but I'm having trouble with my iPod (again), so I couldn't T__T

Oh, and I think I learned the difference between the KTM and the LRT now. The KTM is the blue and yellow one, and the LRT is... the one that's not blue and yellow? >__> ok, I'm still blur. But how do you tell the difference?

And Central is confusing, so big! I was a little surprised at the seemingly random stalls in the centre, selling clothes and all. Do people actually shop there?

I was also excited that the ticket machines accepted Touch N' Go cards, but after Central, suddenly they wouldn't accept my card anymore, even though I had a large amount of balance left, so I had to pay in cash after all T___T But at least I got to play with the actual ticket as well. =P

Other than walking around Pavilion, Don also took me to walk around Sungai Wang, which I'd never been to before. It's so... confusing! We nearly got lost in there. But I was amazed at the number of shops in there, and the stuff they were selling, too! One shop selling watches had more watches than I'd ever seen in a single store before, hundreds of them all lined up in rows. Fascinating~~

On the way back we hit rush hour, so it was crowded, and we had to wait an hour for the KTM because it got delayed and the first train that came was so full that we couldn't get on. Wow, public transport here sucks. >__> And it really was like sardines in a can, just like how everyone says! Owh, but nobody groped me or pickpocketed me, so that was one thing that everyone says happens, but didn't happen. (I'm glad it didn't) =D

All in all, it was an experience. I enjoyed the adventure, but I guess if I had to do it everyday it wouldn't be so fun.

Still, I bet if me and my siblings all took the train together, we'd end up being like the manga below. And I pity the person who comes along with us =P

Animated Fashion Ad Campaigns

Yes, now that I am home, expect to see a lot of Youtube videos on this blog. haha

My sister gave me this link to a Louis Vuitton ad yesterday, which she said she loved. I was a little surprised at first, since Nina is not into brands at all. But then I watched the video, and now I know why.

Isn't it adorable? Now we know why kids these days are so brand-oriented.

Then I found this Prada ad.

I love this over the LV ad. It's a little creepy, but the art is just gorgeous.

If anybody finds more of these kinds of ads, please pass me the link =D

You Belong With Me

I am embarrassingly addicted to Taylor Swift songs. Her songs are a bit high school-y, butbutbut... I like her pop-country style XD

Haven't liked her music videos so far, but this particular one made me go "awww...."

Have to wonder though, why is the guy in these high school dramas always the jock? I prefer the class clown, myself. =P

Guess Who?

Found this old photo lying around. Gave me a good laugh, thought I'd share =P
